Meet our new EMD

Todd A. Mahr, MD, FACAAI, began his position as executive medical director on Jan. 1. He answered a few questions to share his insights on the inner workings of the College and how he can help you in his new role.

Q. You joined the College in 1987, what motivated you to join, and how has your membership benefited you and the way you practice allergy?

A. I was fortunate to have a section chair who encouraged participation in both societies (ACAAI and AAAAI). I liked the collegiality and attitude of the College towards me as a new member. I really felt welcomed. As time went on for me, I realized the College fit more of what I wanted and needed as a community allergist.

Q. You held many leadership positions over the years, and you served as the College’s president in 2018-2019, which allowed you to see the development and implementation of Vision 2020 and Vision Forward (the College’s most recent strategic initiatives). What do you see next for the College?

我认为大学是灵活所以它可以满足the needs and demands on our members. We have a very active movement addressing DEI issues. We have a very strong advocacy presence that strives to be ahead of the issues our members may be facing in the future. As an organization, the College will need to be adaptive to challenges and pressures our members are facing in the health care workplace.

Q. As the College’s new executive medical director, what do you want committee and council members to know about you and how you can help them in their work?

I have been in your place, as a committee member and as a committee leader. I have found that the College does listen! The College needs you and we value your input and insights. It can sometimes be challenging for large organizations to work efficiently, but our committee structure gives us a great means of working together to move the College forward. If you have issues, and you feel that you are not being heard, please do not hesitate to reach out to me via email.
