Preparing future leaders

On March 25 and 26 the College will host itsLeadership Summit: Generation Nextin Chicago. Up to 20 emerging College leaders (physician members 45 years of age or younger and/or in practice for 10 or less years) will be selected to participate in the College’s annual event.Applications are due Feb. 10.

The one-and-a-half-day hands-on program is designed to help young practicing allergists develop a solid set of leadership skills they can immediately apply in their practice. Participants will learn how to communicate effectively, prevent and dissolve conflict, advocate for change, coach others, work with different behavior styles and much more. Successful completion of this program also satisfies the ABAI MOC Part 4: Practice Assessment/Quality Improvement requirement (Alternative Modules).

“The Summit exceeded my expectations,” said a previous participant. “It provided me with real tools to improve my leadership skills and interpersonal communication in my practice, in the ACAAI, and in my personal life.”

Since the College first began offering the Leadership Summit five years ago, 126 young allergists have participated and have since taken a more active role in the work of the College. Nearly all past participants have served on councils, committees and task forces, with more 25% now serving in a leadership capacity, including five past participants who are currently members of the Board of Regents.
